50th Anniversary 1975 – 2025
The Oxfordshire Railway Society was formed in 1975 by a group who felt that there was a need in the Oxford district for a railway society to cater for the general railway enthusiast.
ORS meetings, where a friendly atmosphere prevails, are held on the second Monday of each month, excepting July and August.
ORS holds a varied selected of talks, often from distinguished speakers. They are illustrated with videos or photos and range from steam trains to diesel engines, from broad to narrow gauge, and from foreign to local interest.
In December we hold the Oxfordshire Railway Society’s Annual Bumper Film Show (with seasonal refreshments).
We meet in the main hall at Kidlington Baptist Church, OX5 2DS: doors open at 6:30pm for a 7pm start. Light refreshments are served in the interval, and meetings finish by 9:30pm.
There is a large car park, and a bus stop right outside with frequent services to/from Oxford.
ORS also publish a monthly newsletter Buffer Stop, available on this website, and an annual Journal, 81F (named after the Oxford railway sheds in the days of steam).
In addition we hold trips to places of railway interest in the summer.
